Are you locked out of your home or business in Walsall? Call NSH Locksmiths immediately. We will get you back in
Firstly, if you are locked out of your home or business, please don't panic. We will get you back in. Secondly, we need to understand what has caused the lock out.
Have you lost your key?
Sometimes it's as simple as this. Don't beat yourself up about it. It happens more often than you think. We can get you back in your property. In our experience many people don't keep a spare key or have lost the original and were currently using the spare and lost that as well. Once we have your door open we can give you the option of having your lock changed for a new one and that will come with a minimum of 2 keys.
Has the door closed behind you and the key is inside the premises?
Most people think of lock outs being a simple matter of locking your door and losing your key whilst you're out and about. There are many other reasons for being locked out of your home and it dictates how locksmiths like us decide to get you back in.
It might be that you have a wooden door with a nightlatch that has closed behind you and the keys are in the house. A simple draft from end of the property to the other can cause this to happen. Nightlatches work great in simply locking your door when you close it after entering the premises. It can unfortunatley go against you if you are leaving the premises without the key and the door closes on you. Don't worry, we'll get you back in.
You may or may not have heard of 'no follow' doors. These are upvc doors where the latch can only be operated by the key instead of the handles. On 'no follow' doors the handles only operate the multipoint mechanism and if one of the closes behind you because of a draft and you don't have the key, you won't be able to get back in. Call us now and we'll get you back in safely.
Has your key snapped in the lock?
This is particularly common if your door has a euro cylinder. This is the type of cylinder that you have in UPVC, aluminium and Composite doors.

Also just as common if your door has a rim cylinder. These a commonly known as Yale locks. These are type that you have in wooden doors where you pull or push the door to and it locks. The locking mechanism is known as a nightlatch.

The keys snap for many reasons. Sometimes it can happen because the key is that old that the metal has become brittle and worn that eventually it may just snap on you.
Other times it can be because people are in a rush to leave and they don't quite pull the key out straight and ping. They key is no longer useable.

Oddly enough it can be because of the wrong key being used. It may happen if you have only just moved in and the keys for the doors look similar to each other. It can also happen after a good night out and confusion sets in.

Another reason this happens is because of the cylinder needs to be changed. Lock cylinders are mechanical items made of metal components. Overtime they do wear out, especially if they haven't had any type of servicing done to them. Eventually the cylinder will become hard to turn or it may be very awkward to insert of remove the key. It amazing how often this can lead to a snapped key and then you are either locked out or locked in. If you are experiencing problems with your lock cylinder then please call us straight away so we can investigate before you get locked out.
Has your key simply worn or is it broken?
It can be as simple that your key has worn out or has broken.

Regarding a worn key. This is something that happens over a very long time. You may have trouble using your key in the lock and it gradually getting worse. Probably getting worse over such a long time that you probably don't even notice it is getting worse. One day the key will just not work. It's a case of the straw that broke the camel's back. Before it gets to this point sometimes people start using the spare key and avoid the lock out without realising.
In the case of a broken key this can be a case of a key, new or old that has been dropped on the floor and you've simply not realised what has happened. It was working when you left for work and then you've returned home and it no longer is. Keys can be quite fragile.
The old fashion style keys can be quite vulnerable to damage. They generally have cuts that are quite deep leaving thin pieces of metal that can be open to being bent or even snapped off. It's harder to notice than you think. In the image opposite, this was a case where there were multiple key holders to this lock and the main users key was no longer working. The key was broken when compared with the other users keys. They decided to have the lock replaced anyway as it was only working on the one side now. However, until I pointed it out they had no idea that the key was broken.

Are you locked out of your safe in Walsall or the surrounding areas? Get in touch with NSH Locksmiths. We can help you get access to your belongings again
NSH Locksmiths have opened numerous safes since we started in business. All over the West Midlands. Safes are used for various reasons but we generally keep items and documents in them that we intend to keep. Even if they aren't used on a daily basis they are in the safe to be needed in the future. If you become locked out of your safe then please get in touch with us.
Have you forgot the code to your safe?
Don't despair. NSH Locksmiths can still get you into your safe. Most likely in a way where you still be able to use it in the future. It is very easy for this to happen. If you have stored items in a safe that aren't used on a daily basis it can be very easy to forget. Even if you've wrote the code on a piece of paper, you have probably forgot where the piece of paper is.
Have your batteries died in your digital safe?
This is probably one of the most common reasons why we are called out to open a safe. Again it comes down to not having to interact with the safe very often. Also, we assume they don't use much power and the batteries will last a long time.

There is also the override key which gives you that piece of mind that if the batteries ever do fail, you can still open your safe.

However. What if you have lost the override key? Or what if the key is damaged? Or what if the lock that the override key operates is broken?
Have you lost the override key to your digital safe? Is the override key damaged? Is the override lock on the safe broken?
These questions are a common problem with digital safes. Override keys are very easy to lose as they look similar to the keys on bicycle locks. They usually get put in a tub somewhere and disappear forever. We can still get you in to the safe.
Like most keys. The override keys can be broken quite easily. They are made of a very thin gauge metal and are hollow so can be easily crushed out of shape. You can even try and get them back in to shape but this rarely works. Don't worry, we can still get you access to your belongings
In the photo opposite it was a case of the batteries dying and the override key lock breaking. My customer had the override key but the lock had been broken at some point and was no longer useable. We still got the customer access to their belongings.
