One of the first changes you should make to your new home is new locks. You have no idea who or how many people actually have a working key to your new home. Homeowners give copies of their keys to many people for different reasons. It can be as simple as giving a copy to a neighbour to avoid being locked out. A key may be given to a relative so they can come in and water the plants while the homeowner is away on holiday.

A very common mistake people also make with their house keys is when they take their car in for an MOT or a service. They sometimes hand over all of their keys rather than just handing over the car key. Keys can be easily copied. You have no idea if this has been done by the previous owner to your property or not. A total stranger with the wrong intentions may have a working key to your new home.

Call us and we can offer you a hassle free lock change for your lovely new home.

Locks are a mechanical item. They are designed to be tough and sturdy but like anything mechanical, over a long period of time they can begin to show signs of wear and tear. A classic sign of this is if you're having trouble inserting the key and you need several attempts to get the key in the lock. Another tell-tale sign is if you're having trouble turning the key to lock or unlock your door. This can be in the form of numerous clicks as you're turning the key. Or, it can be in the form of huge resistance when trying to turn the key. You almost feel like you're going to snap the key. After a while the lock will eventually seize up stopping you from locking or unlocking your door. Or you will end up snapping the key in the lock. Either way you are going to have trouble with your door whether you are on your way out somewhere or coming back home.

If your locks are showing signs of wear and tear then call us and we can change them for you.

There are many types of locks available for your home with increasing levels of security. The great thing about higher security locks is the visual deterrent it shows to a would be intruder. You must understand that all locks can be defeated. That is basic fact. However, the lock you have represents time to someone who wants to try and defeat it. If you have a basic lock on your door, this will be faster to overcome than a higher security lock. A would be burglar will have to spend more time trying to open a door with a higher security lock than a more basic lock. They will most likely have to make more noise opening the door containing a higher security lock as well. This is the deterrent a higher security lock will offer. You are presenting the criminals with big problems to solve. How long will it take to get in? How much noise will they have to make? The longer they have to take, the more chances of them being spotted or caught.

Another interesting thing about higher security locks. This relates to an issue I mentioned further up the page. Is when handing your keys to strangers when taking your car in for a service or MOT. The keys are harder to copy. You can't just go to your local hardware store and copy the keys of higher security locks. In many cases you have to order them from the manufacturer of the lock. Yes, the cost is slightly higher than that of a key for a lower security lock, however, is the security of your home not worth that cost. Absolutely it is.
